Artist Statement
I make paintings about transcendent moments in the natural world. Inspired by scenes from the vastness of the ocean to the fading evening light through tree branches, every moment holds within it an opportunity for beauty. This body of work combines the large moments with the small, old work with new. My acrylic paintings are worked on slowly and meditatively over months, often in various locations in nature. I work layer by layer on loose canvas, allowing the paint to flow and take on new shapes inspired by the day's location. These paintings capture the memories of places I hold dear. Similarly, my shadow paintings in oil aim to capture not only color and luminosity, but also memory and fleeting nature of time.
